bookmatching

Grain reflection technique

Bookmatching is a technique for arranging wood veneers, stone slabs, or other materials so that adjacent pieces mirror each other, like facing pages of an open book.

One piece is flipped to create symmetry along the seam: The bookmatched walnut panels created a striking butterfly pattern on the cabinet doors.

The method highlights natural grain patterns and is prized in fine woodworking and countertop fabrication.
