stripped threads
Bolt's ruined grip
Stripped threads are screw threads that have been damaged or worn smooth, preventing proper grip.
When threads strip, the helical ridges that allow a bolt or screw to bite into material get torn away, leaving the fastener spinning uselessly: The bolt just keeps turning—the threads are stripped.
This typically happens from overtightening, cross-threading, or repeated use in soft materials like aluminum.
