subspace

Embedded mathematical structure

Subspace has meanings across mathematics, physics, and subculture.

In linear algebra, a subspace is a subset of a vector space that is itself a vector space under the same operations.

In science fiction, subspace is a hypothetical dimension allowing faster-than-light travel or communication: The ship dropped into subspace.

In BDSM contexts, subspace describes the trance-like mental state a submissive may enter during intense scenes—a dissociative euphoria from the physical and psychological intensity: She went deep into subspace.
