FTL

Beyond light speed

FTL stands for faster than light, referring to travel or communication that exceeds the speed of light.

The concept appears throughout science fiction as a necessary cheat for interstellar stories: The ship's FTL drive could cross the galaxy in weeks.

In physics, FTL travel remains theoretical, since Einstein's relativity suggests it's impossible for objects with mass.
