phase shift
Signal timing change
A phase shift is a change in the timing or position of a wave relative to a reference point.
In physics and engineering, waves that are out of phase have peaks and troughs that don't align: The two signals were 90 degrees out of phase.
The concept extends to any cyclical pattern where timing changes: a phase shift in sleep patterns, economic phase shifts.
In electronics, phase-shifting circuits deliberately alter signal timing for various effects.
