war grave

Fallen fighter's resting

A war grave is the burial site of someone who died in military service, especially during wartime.

War graves are often maintained by government agencies or international commissions, marked with uniform headstones in dedicated cemeteries: We visited the war graves at Normandy.

The term encompasses both individual graves and larger memorial sites honoring fallen soldiers.
