videotape

Analog movie format

Videotape is magnetic tape used to record video and audio, or a cassette containing such tape.

As a verb, to videotape is to record something on this medium: We videotaped the wedding.

The term persists even as the technology has largely been replaced by digital recording—people still say videotape when they mean any video recording.
