magnetization
Creating magnetic properties
Magnetization is the process of making something magnetic, or the degree to which something has become magnetic.
Iron can acquire magnetization through exposure to a magnetic field or electric current.
The term also describes the magnetic moment per unit volume of a material: The rock's magnetization revealed the orientation of Earth's magnetic field when it formed.
