remanence
Lingering magnetic field
Remanence is the magnetism that remains in a material after the external magnetic field has been removed.
The term appears in physics and engineering contexts: The remanence of the alloy made it suitable for permanent magnets.
High remanence is desirable in magnetic storage media and permanent magnets; low remanence matters for transformer cores that must demagnetize quickly.
