fast forward
Jump through time
Fast forward is a control that advances recorded media at high speed, skipping ahead through video or audio: I fast forwarded through the commercials.
The term comes from tape players but applies to any media.
Figuratively, to fast forward is to jump ahead in time or skip intervening steps: Let's fast forward to when you actually met her.
Also written fast-forward.
