turntables

Spinning vinyl platforms

Turntables are rotating platforms, especially the circular platter on which vinyl records spin during playback.

In DJ culture, turntables became instruments—scratching, mixing, and beat-matching transformed record players into tools for creating new sounds: She learned to spin on turntables before switching to digital.

The word also applies to rotating platforms for trains or display items.
