trolleybuses

Wired street vehicles

Trolleybuses are electric buses that draw power from overhead wires through spring-loaded poles on the roof.

Unlike trams or streetcars, they run on rubber tires rather than rails, giving them more flexibility to maneuver around obstacles.

They were common in mid-20th-century cities and remain in use in some transit systems: The city still operates trolleybuses on several downtown routes.
