Valparaiso

Chile's main harbor

Valparaiso is a major port city in central Chile, built on steep hills overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Its colorful hillside neighborhoods, reached by historic funiculars, made it a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The name, meaning "Paradise Valley" in Spanish, has been borrowed for cities in Indiana, Florida, and elsewhere.

We took the bus from Santiago to Valparaiso.
