inverter

DC to AC

An inverter is a device that converts direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC).

Solar panels and batteries produce DC power, but most household appliances run on AC, so inverters bridge this gap: The solar system includes panels, batteries, and an inverter.

In electronics, an inverter may also refer to a logic gate that outputs the opposite of its input.
