survivorship

State of enduring

Survivorship is the state of being a survivor—the one who remains after others have died or been eliminated.

In law, survivorship refers to a joint owner's right to receive full ownership when the other owner dies: The house passed to her by right of survivorship.

In statistics and medicine, survivorship describes the proportion of a group still alive after a given period: five-year survivorship rates.

Survivorship bias is the logical error of focusing on those who made it through a selection process while overlooking those who didn't.
