policyholder

Insurance contract party

A policyholder is the person or entity that owns an insurance policy—the one who pays premiums and receives coverage.

The policyholder may or may not be the same as the insured person: She listed her son as a beneficiary, though she remained the policyholder.

Insurance companies communicate with policyholders about claims, renewals, and changes to coverage.
