predecease

Die before another

To predecease someone is to die before they do.

The term appears mainly in legal and formal contexts—wills, estate planning, obituaries: If my spouse predeceases me, the assets go to my children.

A predeceased relative is one who died before the person being discussed: She was predeceased by her husband of forty years.
