perishing

Meeting one's end

Perishing means dying or being destroyed, often gradually: The refugees were perishing from cold and hunger.

In British informal use, perishing is an intensifier meaning extremely or damned, especially about cold: It's perishing outside, I'm perishing cold.

The adjective can also describe something causing such discomfort: a perishing wind.
