royal decrees
Monarch's official commands
Royal decrees are official orders issued by a monarch, carrying the force of law.
Historically, kings and queens governed through such proclamations: The royal decree abolished the old tax system.
The phrase now appears mostly in historical contexts or when describing remaining monarchies with governing authority.
Figuratively, any authoritative pronouncement from someone in power might be called a royal decree, usually with a note of irony about its imperious tone.
