Blast furnace output

Pig iron is crude iron as it comes from a blast furnace, before being refined into steel or wrought iron.

The name comes from the shape of the molds: molten iron flowed from a central channel into rows of smaller molds, resembling piglets nursing from a sow.

Pig iron is brittle and high in carbon, unsuitable for most uses until further processed.
