grey
Between black, white
Grey is the color between black and white, the color of ash, overcast skies, and shadows.
This is the standard British spelling; Americans prefer gray.
Both forms work as noun, adjective, and verb: grey skies, hair turning grey, the greys of winter.
Grey suggests neutrality, ambiguity, or dullness—a grey area is one without clear boundaries. (See also gray.)
