stanza

Grouped poetic lines

A stanza is a group of lines in a poem, set off by space from other groups.

Stanzas function somewhat like paragraphs in prose, organizing verse into units with consistent patterns of rhyme, meter, or length.

Common forms include the couplet (two lines), quatrain (four), and sestet (six).

The final stanza brought the poem full circle.
