Machiavelli
Ruthless politics theorist
Niccolò Machiavelli was a 16th-century Florentine diplomat and political philosopher whose name became synonymous with cunning, amoral statecraft.
His treatise *The Prince* argued that rulers should prioritize effective governance over conventional morality—the ends justify the means.
To call someone a Machiavelli is to suggest they're craftily manipulative: He's a real Machiavelli when it comes to office politics.
The adjective Machiavellian describes scheming or unscrupulous behavior in pursuit of power.
