lyric

Words for singing

A lyric is a word from a song: I can't get that lyric out of my head.

In the plural, lyrics means all the words: She writes her own lyrics.

As an adjective, lyric describes poetry that expresses personal emotion rather than telling a story, or music suited to such poetry: lyric poetry, lyric soprano.

A lyric poem is also called a lyric.
