mean
Intend to convey
Three different words in English share the spelling mean.
The verb mean has two principal senses, one related to intention (she meant no harm), and one related to definition and signification (what do these diagrams mean?).
There are two adjectives represented by mean.
One is pejorative and negative in connotation (Don’t be mean to your brother. She’s mean with her money.) The other is related to the idea of being in the middle: The mean temperature here is comfortable year-round.
This mean also has a related noun, a middle point between extremes, and a more precise meaning in mathematics.
