Based is internet slang for unapologetically authentic or boldly expressing unpopular opinions without caring what others think.
Originally from hip-hop culture, where it meant being yourself despite criticism, the term spread through online communities to describe anyone who speaks their mind defiantly: That take was incredibly based.
Often used approvingly for controversial statements the speaker agrees with.
