Seminole

Florida indigenous people

Seminole refers to a Native American people originally of Florida, formed largely from Creek groups who migrated south in the 18th century.

The Seminole fought wars against U.S. forces and famously resisted removal to Oklahoma, though many were eventually relocated.

Today Seminole nations exist in both Florida and Oklahoma.

The word also describes their Muskogean language.

The Seminole Tribe of Florida operates several casinos.
