nutsedge

Lawn's triangular nemesis

Nutsedge is a persistent, grass-like weed with triangular stems and underground tubers that make it notoriously difficult to eradicate.

It thrives in moist soil and spreads aggressively through lawns and gardens: The nutsedge is taking over where the sprinkler leaks.

Also called nutgrass, though it belongs to the sedge family, not the grass family.
