cottonmouth
Venomous water serpent
Cottonmouth is a venomous water snake of the southeastern United States, named for the white interior of its mouth displayed as a threat.
Also called water moccasin.
Separately, cottonmouth is the dry-mouthed sensation from dehydration, anxiety, or cannabis use: I woke up with terrible cottonmouth.
