rocket plane
Thrust-powered flying machine
A rocket plane is an aircraft propelled by rocket engines rather than jets or propellers.
Unlike conventional aircraft, rocket planes carry their own oxidizer, allowing them to fly at extreme altitudes where air is too thin for jet engines.
The X-15 and SpaceShipOne are famous examples.
The rocket plane reached the edge of space before gliding back to Earth.
