guarantee

Promise of quality

A guarantee is a formal promise or assurance that something will happen or that a product will perform as expected.

Manufacturers offer guarantees against defects; banks guarantee loans.

The verb means to make such a promise: I guarantee you'll love it.

More loosely, guarantee expresses strong confidence: Nothing in life is guaranteed.

A guarantor is someone who backs another's obligation.
