rangefinders
Optical distance devices
Rangefinders are devices that measure the distance to a target.
Photographers use rangefinder cameras, which focus by aligning two images of the subject.
Golfers and hunters use laser rangefinders to gauge distance: The rangefinder showed 150 yards to the pin.
Military rangefinders help artillery crews calculate firing solutions.
