club selection
Picking your stick
Club selection is choosing which golf club to use for a particular shot, based on distance, terrain, wind, and obstacles.
Good club selection accounts for a player's own abilities and tendencies: His club selection was perfect—he landed it three feet from the pin.
The term occasionally extends to choosing a venue for nightlife, but the golf meaning dominates.
