benchmark
Measure of comparison
A benchmark is a standard or point of reference for measuring or comparing things.
In computing, benchmarks test hardware or software performance against established metrics: We ran benchmarks on the new processor.
The term comes from surveying, where a mark cut into stone served as a reference point for elevation measurements.
To benchmark is to evaluate against a standard: They benchmarked their customer service against industry leaders.
