moorhen

Red-billed wader

A moorhen is a dark waterbird with a red and yellow bill, common in ponds, marshes, and slow-moving waterways across Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Related to coots and rails, moorhens bob their heads while swimming and often forage on land near water's edge.

The name comes from an old word for marsh, not from moors.
