political cartoon
Satirical news illustration
A political cartoon is a drawing, usually satirical, that comments on current events, politicians, or social issues.
The genre uses caricature, symbolism, and visual metaphor to make its point—exaggerating features, depicting politicians as animals, or showing abstract concepts as physical objects.
The political cartoon showed Congress as a circus.
Editorial cartoons in newspapers are the most familiar form.
