critique

Evaluate strengths, weaknesses

Critique is a detailed analysis and assessment of something, typically a creative work or intellectual argument.

Unlike simple criticism, critique implies systematic evaluation of both strengths and weaknesses: The professor offered a thorough critique of my thesis.

As a verb, to critique is to provide such analysis: We'll critique each other's drafts in workshop.

The word carries more academic weight than criticize, which tends toward finding fault.
