exaggeration
Stretching the facts
Exaggeration is overstatement—representing something as greater, better, worse, or more extreme than it actually is.
A fish story grows with each telling; a minor inconvenience becomes the worst day of my life.
Exaggeration can be deliberate rhetorical effect, unconscious distortion, or outright lie.
The line between emphatic expression and exaggeration often depends on the listener's tolerance: That's not an exaggeration—it really was a hundred degrees.
