ossobuco

Milanese veal dish

Ossobuco is an Italian dish of braised veal shanks, cut crosswise so the marrow-filled bone sits at the center of each piece.

The name means "bone with a hole." Traditionally served with risotto or polenta, the dish is a specialty of Milan: We ordered the ossobuco with saffron risotto.
