fork-tender
Soft when prodded
Fork-tender describes food, especially meat or vegetables, cooked until soft enough that a fork pierces it with almost no resistance.
The term appears in recipes to indicate doneness: Braise the short ribs until fork-tender, about three hours.
It suggests food that yields easily but hasn't turned to mush.
