Cremona

Lombardy violin city

Cremona is a city in northern Italy, renowned since the sixteenth century as the center of violin making.

The workshops of Stradivari, Guarneri, and Amati produced instruments there that remain the standard against which fine stringed instruments are measured.

A Cremona or Cremonese violin refers to an instrument from this tradition: The soloist played a Cremona worth millions.
