oilrig

Oceanic extraction platform

An oilrig is a large structure used to drill for and extract petroleum from beneath the earth's surface or ocean floor.

Offshore oilrigs are particularly iconic—massive platforms standing in open water or floating while anchored to the seabed.

Also spelled as two words: oil rig.
