no
Opposite of yes
As any parent of a two-year-old can attest, no is an all-purpose word for denial, refusal, disagreement, dissent, and rejection.
It is classified as an adverb or an interjection, depending on the context.
No is also used adverbially to negate a construction that contains a comparative: This room is no quieter than the other one.
No is required in many constructions, where it typically works as an adjective.
It negates gerunds and other nouns (No smoking; we’ll be done in no time). Before a count or proper noun, no is used to deny or diminish status: He’s no Rembrandt.
