neutrophil
Lobed white cell
A neutrophil is a type of white blood cell that forms the body's first line of defense against infection.
Neutrophils are the most abundant white blood cells in humans, arriving quickly at sites of injury or invasion to engulf and destroy bacteria and other pathogens.
A high neutrophil count often indicates bacterial infection; a low count (neutropenia) leaves patients vulnerable to infection.
