suppuration
Wound producing discharge
Suppuration is the formation and discharge of pus from infected tissue.
A wound suppurates when bacteria trigger the body's inflammatory response, producing the thick yellowish fluid of dead cells and debris.
The term appears in medical contexts: The cut showed signs of suppuration after three days.
The adjective is suppurative.
