B cell
Marrow-derived lymphocyte
A B cell is a type of white blood cell that produces antibodies to fight infection.
B cells are central to the immune system's ability to recognize and remember specific pathogens—once exposed to a threat, some B cells become memory cells that respond faster if the same invader returns.
The B stands for bone marrow, where these cells mature.
Also called B lymphocyte.
