reepithelialization

Wound surface restoration

Reepithelialization is the regrowth of epithelial tissue—the thin layer of cells covering body surfaces—over a wound or damaged area.

The process is central to wound healing, as epithelial cells migrate from the wound edges to restore the skin's protective barrier: Reepithelialization was complete within two weeks of the burn injury.
