eosinophil

Parasite-attacking white cell

An eosinophil is a type of white blood cell involved in the immune response, particularly against parasites and in allergic reactions.

Named for readily absorbing eosin dye and appearing pink under a microscope, eosinophils increase during allergic conditions, asthma, and certain infections: The blood test showed elevated eosinophils.
