nasolacrimal duct

Tear-to-nose channel

The nasolacrimal duct is the channel that drains tears from the eye into the nasal cavity.

It runs from the lacrimal sac at the inner corner of the eye down through the bone to empty into the nose—which is why crying makes your nose run.

A blocked nasolacrimal duct causes excessive tearing and is common in infants.
