State of bother
Irritation is a state of annoyance or mild anger, the feeling when something bothers you without quite provoking fury: I couldn't hide my irritation at the constant interruptions.
It also describes physical discomfort—inflammation or sensitivity in body tissue: skin irritation, eye irritation from the chlorine.
The source of either kind of bother is also called an irritation: The dripping faucet was a constant irritation.
